Proud to be American

It is now official - I'm now the same nationality as the rest of my family! No longer do I endure midnight sweats about sudden deportations or lack of due process. And another benefit, I get to vote my conscience!

There were 700+ people being naturalized the same day (apparently there were going to be more later that afternoon). I sat between a Bulgarian and a Romanian. The Romanian texted the whole time, probably tweeting her naturalization in real time.  The ceremony was nice but what was incredibly moving was the sense of elation from this group when we were finally declared Americans.

It was a perfect June day, sunny and cool. My lovely boys were there as well as MN friends and family. Liam really enjoyed waving my flag, and Ian almost realized his life long wish.... There on the grounds of Bethel University (where the ceremony took place) was a goose family with fresh goslings. Ian took off after them, shouting over his shoulder that he was finally going to hug a goose. However, Gramma intervened. She said there was a goose in her yard and she would rather he hug a goose closer to home, and presumably closer to his pediatrician should things go awry.

Grandma treated us to a delicious Korean dinner at the end of the festivities. Ian and Liam loved the food and won over the waitresses with their cuteness!
